    resulting from a fall, a collision, or twisting of the knee joint.

    An acute injury may involve

    • Ligament tear or strain
    • Cartilage tear
  • Overuse Injury
    resulting from continuous activity, such as running, jumping, cycling, weight training or bush walking. Overuse injuries develop over time. They are more common than acute injuries.

    An overuse injury is usually related to one or more factors, such as

    • your technique or running style

An overuse injury may involve
  • Tendon Pain (Patellar tendinopathy) associated with repeated jumping and landing activities
  • Pain in the knee cap (Patello-femoral syndrome) associated with climbing stairs, bending and squatting
Identify any underlying cause
Your physiotherapist will then explore a variety of things that may be  contributing to or aggravating the situation.
  • Your pre and post exercise regime
  • Below par fitness level
  • Poor flexibility
  • Lower body biomechanics/weakness
Treat the injury:
  • Mobilisation
  • Strength-building exercises
Advise you on how to prevent a recurrence
