Your Symptom: Shoulder Pain
How Fiveways Physiotherapy
can help you:
When you see a Fiveways Physiotherapy physiotherapist
the first priority will be to identify the cause of your
shoulder pain.
Shoulder pain may not occur in isolation and it may not
be possible to effectively relieve your pain until the
source of the problem (which may be an injury to your
shoulder or may be related to an issue with your spine
or the muscle balance around your shoulder), is
identified.
- Discuss with your shoulder pain with you
Your therapist will discuss the occurrence of your
pain and the incidence of the pain- with an injury or
over time with a slowly increasing discomfort or pain.
Your shoulder pain may be local or it is may be
referred or there may be a combination of
causes. A number of questions will help to guide your
therapist to determining cause. Then, the therapist
will:
- Examine your shoulder
Your Fiveways Physiotherapy physiotherapist will do
a local examination of your shoulder by testing
- Neck and back range of movement
- Your muscle strength
- Active and passive movement at your shoulder and
other joints
- Posture/muscle balance
- Advise you where additional tests may be necessary
Further tests may be needed to identify if
anything else is contributing to your shoulder pain
and possible postural involvement
- Treat the injury
Based on the diagnosis and how severe your pain is,
your Fiveways Physiotherapy Physiotherapist will
suggest a treatment plan and , with your permission,
start treatment
- Mobilisation
- Electrotherapy
- Ultrasound, to reduce some of the ache resulting
from increased activity
