Your Symptom: Ankle Sprain
An ankle sprain occurs when the ligaments are
stretched. This causes tears in both ligaments and small
blood vessels. The result is pain and bleeding into the
tissue.
First Aid for a Sprain:
As soon as possible, and for 72 hours after you sprain an
ankle you should use the RICE method to reduce swelling
and control bleeding.
Rest: take it easy and only move
within the limit of your pain
Ice: As soon as possible and for 20 minutes every
2 hours apply ice or frozen gel wrapped in a damp towel.
Compression: Firmly bandage the entire ankle and
lower shin
Elevation: Elevate your ankle higher than you
heart as much as possible.
