Tai Chi- for Balance and Falls Prevention
Retired Librarian, Age 71
My family was beginning to get worried about my safety on my own when they noticed I was having difficulties keeping my balance around the house. After a few incidents with falls, my doctor recommended that I joined Mandy’s Tai Chi classes to improve my balance and increase my stamina. I really appreciated that the classes started with exercises on chairs. Mandy gave us close attention throughout the class and exercises to continue at home. The small class sizes (2-4 people) gave me time to exercise at my own speed and they were tailored to our needs. I was never worried about falling and I am more confident now because of it. Over the six weeks, I definitely saw an improvement in my balance and stamina, which gives me great piece of mind when I am home alone and puts my family at ease.

Back Pain – Soreness from strenuous work
Tradesman, 32
I was starting to get soreness in my back from work. Before I went to see Mandy, I had trouble getting to sleep because of the ache in my back, and I was having headaches that kept me from concentrating while on the job. Coming in and getting the tension eased was a big help in getting me back into shape. She also gave me exercises to follow that helped me relieve the soreness from my own home, and that helped prevent the injury from happening again. Being able to do my exercises before going to bed has helped me get back to my normal sleep pattern, and the fact that I can do them at home is a huge help to me since it’s difficult for me to fit in appointments on my busy and unpredictable schedule.

Lymphoedema – swelling after breast surgery
Mother of two, Age 44
The swelling after my breast surgery was keeping me from finishing even the most basic tasks around the house and at work. With the summer coming in, I began to notice a pattern where the swelling was much worse in the heat. This made it difficult to manage since I have a busy schedule around managing the kids and work. I am thankful that Mandy was able to get on to it as soon as possible. The garment Fiveways had ordered in for me arrived quickly and fit to my measurements. Without it, I would not have gained mobility back as efficiently as I did.

Sports injury- twisted ankle
Student, 15
I started feeling an ache in my thigh during cricket training. It was particularly bad when I was running between the wickets, even after doing the usual warm ups and stretches before practise. When I was still feeling the pain on Saturday, I tried stretching again but it didn’t help. I couldn’t go to cricket or swimming because of the pain so Mum took me to see Mandy. She explained to me that it was an issue with my hamstrings and that I needed to change the way I was stretching. Keeping up her exercises helped release the tension and I was back playing the week after.
